Tsvetlin Yovchev: There is an escalation of threats from Russia - 1

Bulgaria must ensure the safety of critical infrastructure.

Before "Darik" the former chairman of DANS and former interior minister Tsvetlin Yovchev confirmed that there is an escalation of threats coming from Russia and commented that serious attention should be paid to the security of critical infrastructure, power system facilities, weapons depots and factories, and military sites.

As for Bulgaria, Yovchev clarified that there has been a threat of Russian actions since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, but now the risks have gone from moderate to significant.

"Exactly how big they are will be difficult to define, but in general these signals and warnings should be taken seriously. The threat of this type of action has existed since the beginning of the war. One of the main tasks of the Russian services is to be able to provide appropriate conditions regarding the war in Ukraine. That is, to make the European countries, the NATO countries waver regarding aid to Ukraine.

The second is to make it difficult to materially provide such assistance. There is a threat to the enterprise from a military complex, weapons depots and so on. On the other hand, the war is entering a new phase in which the Putin administration will try to escalate the conflict. Actions against energy infrastructure are also not excluded.

However, these threats are currently escalating and should be taken seriously. It is not a question of terrorist attacks in this sense, the aim will not be to instill fear in the public. "In my opinion, it will be difficulties in the supply of ammunition and problems in the energy infrastructure to force the relevant countries to ease the measures against Russia," the expert pointed out.

"In a certain context, there are risks that Putin will try to expand this conflict. By involving NATO member countries, the nuclear card can be waved again", noted Tsvetlin Yovchev.
