The southern Gaza Strip has only three more days of fuel left to provide health services , warned the World Health Organization (WHO), quoted by Reuters and BTA.
Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have sought refuge from the fighting in northern Gaza in the southern part of the coastal territory. Israel has threatened to launch a major offensive in Rafah, where it says thousands of Hamas fighters are hiding, with the advance of the Israeli army already on the outskirts of the southern city.
The WHO said fuel supplies to the area were halted yesterday. One of the three hospitals in Rafah - "Abu Youssef al-Najjar" - is no longer functioning. Part of its equipment has been moved to field hospitals.
"WHO has moved some medical supplies to warehouses and hospitals, but without additional aid coming to Gaza, we cannot continue our life-saving support to hospitals," WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said. He added that employees of the organization will remain in the area to provide health services.
